Crysbel “Mariposa” Tejada (they/elle) is a non-binary Afro-Caribbean born and raised between the occupied territories of the Munsee Lenape (West Harlem, NY) and Bohio/Ayiti (Dominican Republic). For the past 10+ years they have been organizing, living and loving within the Gulf South region. Their experience culminates grassroots community organizing, environmental and food justice, land/water defender, direct-action trainer, a hub-leader for the Black LGBTQAI+ Migrant Project, and a community interpreter/translator that builds multilingual capacity with community organizations through a Language Justice framework. They are also a poet and community gardener who believes in the importance of cultivating relationships to food and herbal medicine as a means to healing and reconnect to our ancestors.
