  • Racial Justice

In May 2021, City Life/Vida Urbana organized 100 members and allies who marched through Georgetowne Homes, a complex of 1,000 apartments in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood, demanding that the owner, Beacon Properties, drop over 100 nonpayment evictions that they had filed in a single day in March, on Black and Brown households negatively impacted by the pandemic.

CL/VU’s organizing, in tandem with a letter from legal partners and coordination with a HUD Tenants’ organizing group, pressured Beacon down from these evictions, forcing them to pause nonpayment evictions in all of their properties, and enter negotiations about changing their eviction practices, which CL/VU believe violate Fair Housing law.
