Black Phoenix Organizing Collective

GOI grantee Black Phoenix Organizing Collective (BPOC) utilizes the frameworks of Disability Justice, Reproductive Justice, and Mutual Aid. BPOC uplifts these frameworks through political education with community members and partner organizations, community mutual aid drives, and community defense workshops. BPOC currently leads the #WhyIDidntCall campaign to engage and build a community around a shared vision of public safety and abolition.

In June 2022, BPOC led an organizing drive and teach-in commemorating Black August to gather #WhyIDidntCall surveys and help build a better understanding of alternatives to community policing. As a reproductive justice organization, BPOC also responded to harm caused by Arizona’s 15-week ban on abortion by coordinating with other local organizations to provide abortion care packages and to support people seeking abortion care in other states.
