Transforming the Gender Justice Movement: Brown Boi Project
In direct response to transphobia and the lack of trans and gender-expansive inclusion in reproductive justice spaces, Black Trans Fund grantee Brown Boi Project brings together masculine of center womyn, men, two-spirit people, transmen, and their allies committed to changing the way that communities of color talk about gender and transform gender justice movements.
In 2022, Brown Boi Project gathered a group of masculine-center queer and trans folks to grow its network of thriving transmen of color and to broaden current frameworks around queer masculinities nationally. One outcome of this retreat was the creation of The Trans Trust Fund, a pilot program for trans and gender-expansive youth launched in collaboration with the GSA Network that supports young people navigating financial struggles. The fund awards direct aid to trans and gender-expansive youth seeking support for their financial well-being.
In addition, Brown Boi Project is a leader in supporting Black masculine of center people through a “Liberatory Masculinity as Engaged Practice” retreat initiative, which led to creation of a capacity-building program for Black trans masculine and gender-expansive community builders in the South.
