A Bail Fund Supporting Those Criminalized for Self-managed Abortions
The reversal of Roe v. Wade means that more people will need to self-manage their abortions without access to clinic-based or provider-directed care.
In response to SCOTUS overturning Roe in June 2022, Groundswell’s Rapid Response Fund supported If/When/How’s Repro Legal Defense Fund’s bail fund to support people of color who are criminalized for self-managed abortions. This critical program operates with the understanding that many of the communities they serve have lived in a “post-Roe” reality even before Roe’s overturn, where oppressive systems and structural inequity have prevented and complicated access to necessary reproductive care across geographies.
The RLDF is scaling up to respond to the increase in demand and is working with partners like Groundswell Fund to support as many people as possible.
