Fighting for Domestic Workers and Immigrant Rights: Mujeres Unidas y Activas
GOI grantee Mujeres Unidas y Activas (MUA) has a dual mission: promoting personal transformation and building community power for social and economic justice. MUA trains member-leaders in California to lead organizing campaigns for immigrant, workers, and women’s rights.
In 2022, MUA, among 17 other workers, employers, advocates, and health and safety experts, drafted the state guidelines to create the first-ever state-level health and safety guidelines for domestic workers in the U.S. As a California Employment Safety Standards Advisory Committee member, MUA also issued policy recommendations to the California state legislature that could lead to new standard legislation in 2023.
MUA continues to serve nationally as a leader in the growing fight for domestic worker rights, spearheading the founding of the National Domestic Worker Alliance and the California Domestic Workers Coalition.
