Thy was born in Vietnam, and her family immigrated to the U.S. when she was 13 years old. With very limited English, she spent her adolescent years surrounded by the loving Viet immigrant community in Philadelphia, learning more about the history of Viet refugees and immigrants and their resilience. In college, she began working with a local non-profit organization as a youth organizer educating immigrant high school students on social justice issues and organizing actions. It was then that Thy became politicized and passionate about working with her community.
Thy is highly adept in customer service and enjoys problem-solving and brightening people’s days. After working in the corporate world for several years, Thy sought a career path that would be more values-aligned and returned to the non-profit world. Before joining the Groundswell Fund team, Thy spearheaded the operations team at VietLead, a grassroots non-profit based in Philadelphia, strengthening its internal structure, overseeing and standardizing organizational procedures and systems, and managing grants. She looks forward to utilizing her skills at Groundswell Fund in supporting the growth and stewardship of Groundswell’s vibrant and engaged community of funders.
Thy holds a B.A. in Hospitality and Tourism. In her spare time, Thy enjoys cooking for her housemates, weight lifting, rock climbing, and being active with friends.
