Our Annual Catalyst Fund Evaluation and Capacity Building Program Report
Like many of you, we are still reeling from the violence unleashed in Charlottesville, VA, this past weekend. While this kind of unabashed blood-thirsty racism is not new, our hearts continue to mourn the way white supremacy entrenches and enmeshes itself in our daily lives from the streets, to every public institution we engage, to the media, to our interpersonal relationships and beyond. Despite the overwhelming nature of these political moments and times, we remain hopeful and heartened by the groundswell of brave and life-affirming grassroots organizing led by women of color, low-income women, and transgender people. These leaders and organizations exemplify the strategy and vision required of us all to build our way to a world where we can all live with safety, joy, wholeness, and dignity.
We are proud to be in partnership with our grantees who embody this leadership in the Reproductive Justice Movement and beyond, and we are thrilled to announce the release of two reports from Groundswell Fund that illustrate the impact of that work.
The ninth annual Catalyst Report provides those who care about reproductive justice with the largest data set documenting this brave movement, a one-of-a-kind overview of trends, opportunities, setbacks, and victories. Our hope is that this evaluation will be a useful resource for reproductive justice leaders in the field, offering a birds-eye perspective on the movement. We hope too that it will be a resource for colleagues and partners in philanthropy who, like us, see the writing on the wall about the critical need to seize the historic base building opportunity generated by the 2016 elections.
The Capacity Building Program Report highlights the power and effectiveness of bringing culturally competent grassroots organizing and voter engagement capacity building support to groups who are already doing great work. With so much at stake in 2017, Groundswell is increasing our investment in capacity building. We believe that this is the moment to support the Reproductive Justice Movement to build a large and vibrant base that can mobilize in the streets, at the ballot box, and in statewide collaborations to advance justice via policy and systems change
We hope that in these difficult times, the work described in the Catalyst and Capacity Building reports lifts and inspires you, just as it does our team here at Groundswell. We welcome your thoughts, partnership, and support—please share these reports with your networks and encourage them to support this crucial work!
